The notebook battery is similar to the other rechargeable batteries you can recharge for a certain number of times and then slowly its performance takes a dip. Eventually it will not hold charge any more. The general battery life of a notebook is between 1 ½ years to 3 years. However, if you take extra care of the battery you can increase its longevity.
You can follow a number of tips to make your notebook’s battery perform better.
- Try to keep your computer cool as mush as possible. You can use a notebook cooling pad for this purpose. This is imperative if you want your machine to perform efficiently.
- Try to keep the machine away from direct sunlight and clean the air vents with the help of a soft cloths. This helps to unclog the internal fans.
- We have a general tendency to indulge in multi tasking which actually has a considerable impact on the battery life. So it is always better to refrain from multi tasking unless of course, it is absolutely necessary.
- You can save further by switching off the Auto Save functions in MS Word and similar functions in other applications. The Auto Save function makes the hard disk work more and consumes much battery power.
- You should also unplug accessories like DVD, speakers and hard disks that takes in power from the laptop via the USB.
- Don’t unnecessarily increase the screen resolution or LCD brightness.
- It is always better to work from hard disk rather than the DVD drive or a pen drive. There are some laptops in which you can remove the optical drive and then work.
- People usually watch a lot of movies, play games or download incessantly from the net. Needles to say, these have a telling effect on the battery life of the laptop. Whenever you want to play games try to do so by plugging in the power cord.
- And when you are surfing the net and downloading something don’t operate the laptop on its battery. Plug in the power. This will help a lot to increase battery life.
- Lastly check whether the laptop is running on Ni-Cad battery. If it is so then keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then draining it every three weeks. You can save yourself from this exercise if you are using a Lithium Ion battery.
